Flavor-Free Water On The Go and On The Cheap
Problem: Not all tap water tastes like lilies and roses.
Solution: Reusable, individual-size bottles with filters.
My grandfather used to say that you get a whole meal when you drink water from the Philadelphia tap, and some of my Philadelphia transplant neighbors complain that NJ water is decidedly without the same, shall we say, flavor, of Philly's.
We grow accustomed to the water we grow up with. Whether that’s the mineral rich water of Philadelphia, the just-like-from-the-hose water on the Chesapeake bay, or nationally recognized NYC tap water, we like what we like.
That is, until we all started drinking water with all those regional flavors filtered out in 1966.
A commonly-made claim about bottled water is that it tastes better or is in someway purer of naturally occurring minerals. (Gold, rubies, and diamonds are all minerals, but no, we don’t want any minerals in our water!) And because we just can’t stomach what comes out of the fountain, we pay for the stuff at a rate more than twice the cost of gasoline instead of drinking for free (even though bottled water is a virtually unregulated industry but that’s a story for another day).
Lucky for us, we live in 2011 and have access to individual size reusable water bottles with fast-acting filters made Hydros Bottle. They’re like the pitcher you have in your fridge, except they fit in your purse or backpack without making a mess. And they’re better than the bottle you buy over and over again in that they’re not single use disposables. What’s more, each purchase helps fund water infrastructure projects in the third world.
